In response to our crisis-ridden epoch, the initiative of Global University for Sustainability (Global U) supports the proliferation of autonomous and self-managing local bodies and their interdependent networking for ecological and socio-economic sustainability with justice. Global U will constitute itself as an experimental forum for alternative practices in the production, dissemination and use of knowledge, making possible different modes of relating to one another and to nature other than what is confined by prevailing dominating institutions and practices. Global U will seek to transcend the commodification of knowledge driven by capitalist mechanisms that shape possessive individualistic selves. It hopes to bring together old and new generations of committed people working for ecological justice and socio-economic justice to articulate knowledge produced by experiences in the field, common reflections, and in particular, the wisdoms of the elders, the women, and the communities that defend their commons and rights. It hopes to help cross-fertilize initiatives practiced by organizations and networks to foster further inter-connections, experiment with creative and equitable forms of interacting, networking, and managing the commons. Global U envisions a new sustainable humanity on earth.

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

We are funded by members and people like you. We are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. No government is beyond scrutiny. No situation is beyond hope.

Few would have predicted when we started that torturers would become international outlaws. That most countries would abolish the death penalty. And seemingly untouchable dictators would be made to answer for their crimes.

Grassroots Global Justice is a national alliance of grassroots organizations building a popular movement for peace, democracy and a sustainable world. We support each other’s local struggles and collaborate with international allies who share our vision and commitment to building a transformative social justice movement beyond borders. We connect as grassroots leaders by creating spaces for dialogue and strategic thinking, and by sharpening our understanding of global political and economic forces that cause poverty, conflict and environmental destruction in our communities. We work across issues and regions to develop agendas by and for working-class people, poor people, indigenous people and communities of color that can help lead to a good life for all.

IDEA promotes ethical discussion of development: the nature of ethically desirable development, ethical means for achieving development, and ethical dilemmas arising in the practice of development. IDEA members include researchers and students from a range of academic disciplines pertaining to development, along with practitioners working with a variety of development NGOs, agencies, and institutions.
The aim of IDEA is threefold:
    1. To apply ethical reflection to development goals and strategies and to relations between the “North” and “South”. Numerous groups are concerned with international development. Only IDEA, however, explicitly formulates and applies ethical principles to the theory and practice of global, national, and local development.
    2. To effect ethically sound development policies, institutions, and practices. In the light of reasonable ethical principles, IDEA is committed to bringing about improvements in development and environmental policies, institutions and projects.
    3. To promote solidarity, mutual support, and interchange among those development theorists and practitioners throughout the world who are seeking to implement ethically better development paradigms and strategies.

In the struggle for a better world, left and progressive civil society should take a leading role. Loosely organized into thousands of NGOs, broad social movements, academic think-tanks and relatively isolated community-based initiatives, it lacks, however, a key component: infrastructure. Despite periodic gatherings of activists, no framework exists today for regular networking, collective analysis, professional training, strategizing, planning of joint actions, follow-up or evaluation on a global level.

The People, Yes! Network (TPYN), registered as an international NGO in Belgium by a core group of veteran and young grassroots activists, seeks to provide the infrastructure for such a network, as well as the resources necessary to a global movement of genuine systemic counter-hegemony. The Network will also serve as a link between left organizations “on the ground” and critical intellectuals, whose analyses are crucial for guiding their activities.

The OCE supports, connects and promotes community engagement activities throughout the entire University. A portion of this work involves communicating broadly about the University’s community engagement initiatives in order to raise the profile of the OCE and Concordia as a whole. In so doing, our goals are to position Concordia as an innovative, urban university committed to being an engaged community player, and to position Concordia as a leader in innovative Community-University partnerships.
