Another internet is possible: Meet progressive ISPs around the world

Roundtable
Aug 12 2016  9:00 - 11:30

In 2016 it is a given that progressive organisations use the internet to organise. And doing so not only promises a global community of solidarity, but it puts them at risk on several new fronts: from risk of attacks on infrastructure and information and co-optation through the corporatisation of information and user data. And progressive groups can turn to progressive internt service providers (ISPs) who have worked towards an open and enabling internet from its inception. Independent and progressive ISPs can be found all over the world, aiming to serve the progressive movement in their contexts and in whatever way that they can. Some provide website and email services, others provide access to the backbone of the internet itself. Come join a discussion about why progressive internet providers matter to social movements and where you and your organisation can find local, independent and alterantive internet services as well as understand the political context of organising online in the digital age.
